Superchips Tuner for ECOTEC

Hey I knew that topic would draw your attention.

Look I've been talking to superchips and hypertech for a while now. I finally got superchips to agree to take an interest in making a tuner for us but it takes some work on our part. I need responses from all of you no matter if you are interested or not.

From what I was told the only way they will make a tuner for us if if they can see in black and white a large enough market worth developing into. When they see the ECOTEC market this is what they had in mind:

Quote:

The small car market on the other hand is made up of a lot of two groups of people. Regular family people who have kids and do not have a lot of money to purchase the car or truck that they really would like to have. The other group is the younger generation, as I will call them. They to do not have the money to purchase the car they would really like to have but purchase the smaller car because that is what they can afford, no disrespect here, just how I see things. The family owners most probably will not be chip purchasers as they have a limited budget to begin with and so they drive what they drive and that is it. The younger generation on the other hand, works on the car, finds ways to get the money to work on and make the cars faster and better. The point is, this is only a part of the total market for the smaller cars.

So if we want to prove them wrong and get a tuner available for us then we need to answer these questions for them:

Quote:

If you can do some research on the small car market, again numbers how many, age group, how much is typically spent on the car by who, what they spent the money on ect. that would be a good start.

So please wether you own a J or not give your response. I will compile all the statistics and get a project plan together for this opportunity. If you want to see a programmer out there for the ECOTEC, SRT-4, SVT Focus or any other car please give me your answers to the questions above. This is important to our future as small car tuners and could really help with many of our other modifications. Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from many of you.

I'm 24 I spent all of my own money about 3/4 performance 1/4 show and I have totaled in all with the messup I've done I have little under 10K into it. Some stuff I have sold and bought other stuff. I don't know where it all went but I have recipts for almost everything. It includes shipping charges paint and some install charges most of the work was done by my boyz and me. It adds up quick.

they make pcms for stupid civics and integras....etc
if he is samrt he will supply they american tiny muscle with the same tuning modules...if he is truly has the "american spirit".....so point blank make a ecotec tuner module because that "small market" he talks of is actually quite large in respect to these truck, corvette, aka v-8 market... or he just would be seriously making an excuse to overlook a huge market strategy....and later kick his own a$$......for not taking this valuable venture

thanks for letting me post
hopefully they get the point!
set the example, never let the example set you.

If you look at the "market" its going to domestics now. Soon you will see it going back to hot rods and sport trucks. Its all a cycle.

It will get their foot in the door the for Solstice, Sky, and hopefully Nomad... These will all be very popular considering the pricing, performance, and the fact they will be rwd, w/lsd,, so... c'mon chip companies... get with the program.. The eco is very under-ratrated, hook us up.

make the damn tuner already!!! There are enough people around with a ECO motor that are just dying to crank up the power. PLEASE!!!

Sorry, was that a little over the top?
I may not know much about cars, but I know two things......
1) Breaking things is expensive.
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.

I would definatly get one and probably pay up to $500 as long as it actually changed things rather than just trying to trick sensors, and if it got rid of the speed limiter.

I don't see why only imports and v8's are entitled to power. I have spent over$1200 on the apearance of my Cavalier. Now it's time to work on the performace of the vehicle but I'm limited to engine work because of the lack of performance parts for my car. MAKE THE DAMN PART ALREADY !!!!!!!! Besides it sucks when the governor kicks in after getting ahead of a Mustang at the tracks.

I called Superchips today, after being on hold for a good while, the tech guy flat out told me no on a Ecotec Superchip. He said MAYBE in the summer after they finish working on truck programs.

In my experience with chip tuning, the only chips really worth while are those made by a company specifically devoted to tuning that specific line of cars. Being centered on one type of car, they usually know it very well and can therefore produce a better product. In contrast, a company like Superchips only cares about making a buck and not about Ecotec performance. Also, being that the fuel tables are encrypted, they probably don't feel much like spending their time and money to figure it out as the return wouldn't be worthwhile. It's all basic economics.

My suggestion: a few Ecotec people should get together, find themselves a computer engineer and dyno and hack away at the ECU to develop a performance chip. This chip could then be copied and sold, and there you go you have a business.

Otherwise, look into and after market EMS. They're expensive, but its the best way around the problem. Someone may want to give Megasquirt a try, its a great product, its cheap, and you do it all yourself so it extremely flexible.
