going to upgrade the exhaust...best way to go?
Wednesday, February 18, 2004 10:47 AM
I have an 03 Cav (5Spd) In the spring I plan on getting a 4-2-1 header, going into either 2.5 or 2.25 pipe, no cat, and then into a 2.5 inlet Dynomax race magnum muffler(already have this from another car). My questions are who else besides RK Sport makes a 4-2-1 header? Is there really any differance between them or should I just get the least expensive one? I don't plan on any other major mods such as turbo/supercharger/nitrous, is the 2.5 inch pipe over kill? The only other mod I see myself doing is an intake. And finally what kind of a HP increase could I be looking at with a set up like this 10 HP max? Thanks!

2.5 would be overkill... AND it would sound terrible.

I have the RK header (and we sell it) and I love it. I have not seen another 4-2-1 for the Ecos, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. The thing you have to remember is that you get what you pay for. I've seen a lot of 'off brand' headers with a ton of slag in them = less flow. The inside of my RK header was smooth as silk. Just something to think about.

And yeah, I'm not sure you will even see a 10HP gain from exhaust and an intake. The companies like to make it sound like you will, but in real life, I kinda doubt it...

actually Weapon R makes a 4:2:1 header for the eco
which is the same as RK's basicly but it just fits better
because people have had problems with the fitment on RK's Eco Header.

I didn't have a problem, I don't think 03 CavFire did

but you might want to consider the New 4:1 Header from Pacesetter.
theres a post in this forum about it.
Its just not as pretty as RK's

and you should get an intake with all those mods!
AEM makes an intake for our cars check them out

yeah id go with 2.25" pipe , and keep your cat !!! its a hefty fine if you getcaught

and teh caton the eco's been tested against other high flow cats , and it made more power than the aftermarket 1's

and actually youll loose power with it gone , if yur going to run nitrous , id get a cut out before the cat , to help protect it

I have weapon r 421 header ,high flow cat ,mandrel bent 2.5" cat back with res muffler. It sounds good and does not have alot of crackel. I desided on 2.5 because I needed the increase flow rate because I have a 100 shot wet kit of nos and my friend has same set up but with 2.25 piping and a can beat him every time racing even better a role. If you where going with nos, turbo, or supercharger I would go 2.5.
