ecotec into Geo Metro Swap
Tuesday, October 04, 2005 12:25 PM
anybody know if an ecotec wil fit in a geo metro. my girlfriend has a metro on its last legs and we want to build an oddball dragcar, so we want to stuff an ecotec with 5 spd into her car and go from there.

not to give a generic answer but anything is possible with enough fabrication knowledge.

what we need here is the physical dimensions of the ecotec engine and getrag trans--assuming you're running that trans, with it being drag only you have a lot choices. GM was running an automatic on a few of their factory sponsored dragsters.

from there it's up to you to measure the engine bay for clearance. from there it's seeing where the mounts are and fabbing up an engine cradle. since it's a track car you could either modify the stock ecu or get a standalone.

I will be using the getrag as I can't stand autos (I think they're for sissies, no offense to anyone running them) but our plans were delt a pretty bad blow, my girlfriend's parents won't let us store the car at her place, and will prbebly make her donate it so it looks like project ultimate sleeper will have to wait for a better time, like when we get married and get our own place. Damn it!

Personally, manuals are my preference too. The ecotec/getrag combo is one of the best imo.

For drag racing and especially bracket racing an automatic will give you the advantage of consistency. A lot of drag racers have gone the way of automatics because of that. There aren't many Ronnie Sox type of manual magicians anymore
