Ecotecs interchangable?

Hi fellas,

I own a VX220 but the 2.2 is proving difficult to tune while keeping it NA. Before I just go out and get some huge throttle bodies fitted to the engine I had a question.

I read that the ecotec is a modular engine, Does this mean I can strip down the engine and fit parts from any other ecotec engine. Obviously remapping the ECU to suit the change if nessecary.

Say I wanted the oil sump and cooling injectors from the supercharged 2L or the VVt head from the new 2.4 would they be compatible.

If this is the case it would open options for tuning quite a bit. (Before anyone says "just drop in a VVT 2.4 and have done" I'm just curious for the moment.)

Andrew,

VERY complicated question. THEORETICALLY the blocks are the same for the L61 and the LE5, but the part number are different. Why? Don't know. LSJ piston sleeves are all different, don't know about the sump system. I have never tried any of this stuff, but I have researched it in my spare time, I am a GM/Saturn service advisor and parts consultant.
