Need some help
Friday, March 30, 2007 1:52 PM
Ok im building my motor. I got a couple questions to ask and hopefully someone can answer me. Here's the list of things im going to be putting into the motor.
Patriot Stage 2 Head
Arp Head Studs
Wiseco 8 9 1 Pistons
Cometic Head Gasket
Eagle Connecting Rods
Darton Sleeves I had the stock ones checked out and they were a little scratched in one of the cylinders so i decided to get the dartons.

OK i want to know is the Patriot Head any good and should i get assembled with cams already or should i go with diffrent cams.
I also wanted to know what size injectors to go with and if need to change the intake manifold or throttle body.

I have the Hahn racecraft stage 2 and im going to see what i can do with the 16 G that i already have and when i get more money ill buy a bigger turbo maybe. Thank you to the people who can give me some knowledge on what i could do to improve my motor.

The camshafts Patriot gives you are stock, not aftermarket.

Find a set of camshafts that you would like to use. Have them assemble it with the other parts before they ship it to make it easier on the install.

Check out Comp Cams Turbo Camshaft profile. Heard good things about it.

Injector size has more to do with how much power you're aiming for and the max duty cycle you'll be reaching (also, RPM plays a part in it as well). In this write up I included a injector size calculator to get a idea of what size you'd need: http://www.ecotecforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2743

Note: The calculator gives a example of a MUCH recommended 80% duty cycle maximum. I would follow that if I were you.

If you want to get know what exactly your duty cycle may be, you can get a Interceptor gauge which alot of the Cobalt SS/SC guys use. Contact them to find out which specific one you would need to buy because they do sell some application specific or GM specific. (http://www.aeroforcetech.com/)

RSM Racing made a 62 MM Throttle Body (basically a bored out stock throttle body) but they changed their company name Z-Spec but still sell the same products (http://www.z-spec.com/catalog.htm).

And You're Welcome.

I know this sounds like a stupid question but i dont want to buy this product then it wont fit. Will a fuel rail from a saturn work on my cav. Its for the 2.2 ecotec. Saturn Motorsports has a nice fuel rail and is it even worth buying it also.

If it's a ECOTEC L61, yes. All the L61s are basically the same.

The stock intake will support about 325 maybe 350hp and upwards of 15+psi.

You need to contact the maker of the rail and find out what saturn its for, most saturns use different fuel rails than themuch more common J body. Saturn L series have a return style rail like the J bodies but both the feed and return go around the passenger side of the head, opposite the J body location, also most Ion ECOTECs were returnless like a Cobalt or G5 and also wont bolt into a J body or any return style vehicle platform without mods.

The Patriot head is very popular, I'd recommend (if your budget allows) getting it bare and building it with high at least stock LSJ valvetrain or Ferrea components.

Good luck with the Dartons. the MID is awesome setup. you getting a stock bore or going bigger?? ( GO BIGGER!!)

Thank You for the info. The fuel rail is for a ION and the I got the Stage 2 head with out cams and i bought the Comp Cams Turbo Grind cams. Im on a tight budget. I was adding some prices up and it would cost me alot for the Ferrea Valve train. I got the stock bore Darton Sleeves cause i thought it would be alot of money to get the block Bored out and i dont have money right now and i need the motor to be finished so i can have my car back. Thank You soo much. Is there anything else i should know. I want to get an LSD also since the tranny will be out can you give me some advice Thank You once again.
