I already have HPTuners and now??
Saturday, July 07, 2007 1:01 PM
Hi, i bought the HPTuners the last wendsday, it works great! i feel more power and the transmision works better, but my quiestion is, what can i buy now for mi Ecotec 2.2?? I alredy have:

HPTuners
Fujita Air Intake
Headers OBX 4 - 1
Magnaflow Cat back 2.25"

and i have to buy something cheap but funtional.

Look mi car has an auto transmision and my stock (only with 17" rims with 215/45/R17 tires) time in 1/4 mile was 16.99, with Fugita, Catback and the same wheels was 16.87, with Fujita, catback, headers and the same wheels was 16.91 : S... and the last with Fujita, Cat Back, Headers, NX Aditive and stock wheels 17.1... : S... WHY???? And this next Wendsday i will try with Fujita, Cat Back, Headers, NX Aditive, stock wheels and HPTuners...

What's your overall goal with the car?

Its my toy but at the same time is my daily transport, then i cant tune it so much because it will be incofortable, but i want to have the next times in the 1/4 mile:

Like 15.599 - 15.999

But remember i am from Monterrey N.L Mexico, and the autodrom is in bad conditions... it influenses in my times

And the mechanic tolds me that mi SRI are reciving 145°F temperature air, this is bad right?

What can i do?

I think your 1/4 mile times are just impaired by the outside temperature.

You would need a significant power increase in order to get that kind of 1/4 mile time...meaning more $$$

Also, are you at a higher altitude?

So you have heat and altitude that's playing a large effect on your results.

A pulley change (crank pulley) is a mild change.

If you want a large change in results, you're going to end up dishing out a large amount of money. I'm talking about Forced Induction or Nitrous.

The problem is that so many people told me that the forced induction or Nitrous damage the engine, is that true (remember si for my daily use)? because a dont have money to forge the pistons or the rods and i have dificult to get that kind of parts, remember i´m in mexico : (

Forced induction shouldn't hurt the car. As long as you keep it in the ranges that are recommended for the car.

stage one is not intercooled, but it costs 2669.85 on smg, if you went a little more you could get stage 2 which is intercooled for 3852.00. Check for yourself.

Nitrous and Forced Induction run hand in hand. The thing is, you have to remember that what you're doing to gain more power means adding more stress. More stress means more wear. They will reduce the life of the parts BUT it doesn't mean that your engine will blow in a very short period of time IF you know exactly what you're doing first and foremost.

Buy books, read articles and do research. You need to learn the basics before you do anything. I would suggest learning these very basic things:

1. How forced induction effects your engine and how it works (or nitrous if you decide to go that route)
2. What air to fuel ratios are and how they play a effect on your engine
3. How your fuel system works
4. What monitoring devices you need and what to look for
5. Keeping a good budget

I would at least learn these things before you even consider doing anything.
