03 Sunfire No abs, AEM CAI? Any word on this ~

Im looking at installing a performance air intake on my stock 03 sunfire. I'd rather have the AEM CAI, however i've read that it's not compaitible with the non-abs version, I did see a poster say somthing about a new version being out that will work on non-abs cars, any word on this, and where can I purchase it? I've googled the part number 21448p and some dealers say ABS is required while others make no mention of it. If this falls though I was looking at the RKsport WAI for ecotec, not the ugly black one, but the polished aluminum one, I think there is 2 differnt ones. I considered the weapon-r but I heard the dragon intake was like a cheap plastic toy and somtimes has a hard time fitting.

I bought my car used, and it has duel exhaust, how good is this stock duel exhaust? is it a signifigant upgrade over regular stock single exhaust? how much more performance would I get from going to Dueal Catback's ?

Best Regards,
Mike

AEM is currently making an CAI for ALL ECOTECS with or without ABS
so all the CAI will be the same instead of two diffrent versions.

I'd say the AEM CAI is the way to go.
AEM has dyno sheets of power gains for their intakes,
have you seen anyone else show proof their product makes their "estimated gains"?

But do you know where to get the modified version for my car? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Mike

All the CAI's that AEM is making are universal - they will fit both ABS and non-ABS cars. I just installed a brand new AEM CAI on my nonABS eco and I couldn't be happier. If you can afford it, I wouldn't recommend anything else. I have pics in the link on my sig.

There are massive threads dedicated to this topic on the org. <br>

I just finished installing an AEM CAI on my ION yesterday. Really woke up the car. It sounds like I have an exhaust at wide open throttle. I love it and would ALSO recommend it to anyone.

I see you have a cavalier influx -- the resllers im seeing are showing it like this :

Applications: cavalier 03-04 ecotec only, sunfre 03-04 ecotec only, abs only.

I don't want to order the part and then have to go thru the hassle of sending it back, the part has the exact same part number ont he sites that say requires abs and the sites that don't mention it. when you said there are threads dedicated to this on the org, what org are you talking about? sorry for the ignorance but im new to all this.

Mike

all this confusion may be because the old parts where abs noly and the new universal parts fit both, but the vendors don't know that and are still putting abs only on the description, or possibly there are older kits in the channel.

Mike

Mike, you are correct. The descriptions are out of date. I am assuming that there is probably a lot of confusion on the dealer end. It is my understanding that AEM is now only producing the "universal" CAI. If you buy whatever it is that you are looking at from the dealer, I can almost 99% guarantee you that you will get a CAI that will fit your car. If you have the chance stop by a local shop and just ask. If they dont know, either their distributor will know an if they dont know, they'll just ask AEM!

That being said, if you happen to get old stock (doubt it as no one keeps stock for j-bodies) it really isnt that big of a deal. I have heard of people without ABS installing the ABS CAI and it is strictly an issue of placement of the mounting hardware. If you get the "wrong" one, you'll just have to figure out a way to mount it in the car.

Good luck... I didnt know a lot when I installed mine, but I had a lot of good help from a buddy and learned a hell of a lot.

PS - the org I was referring to is j-body.org

I just picked up my '05 Sunfire non abs and i was looking at the AEM CAI too. It seems like the best choice as was said above with the proven dyno results and such. Even tho some other ones may be cheaper the AEM is better quality. I plan on going to my local dealer and just asking about it as to the abs non abs issue, im sure they will give me my answers.

The new AEM intake is not supported on the abs module. So yes it will fit (for sure) abs and non abs vehicles.
