2.2 ecotec no resistance on turning over

03 sunfire. Had dead battary, fuel pressure reg mess up. But it had a resistance start up the next time noting. Just like the starter spring the fly wheel and belts turning but not trying to start just spinning. Not turning over.

My sons car has the same engine with the same problem. Remove the valve cover and check the timing belt tension. It should be tight with no slack. You may find broken pieces of the chain guide like I did. Good luck
