hmm.....the new 2.4L Ecotec

170/170? Pretty cool, but I can see how many people are going to buy something for an old 2.4 Twin Cam and get a 2.4L Ecotec part, and vice-versa already. heheheh

lol... It'll be nice. It'd be nice if it was like Honda design, where you could swap the new Eco head to the older, and vice-versa...

I won't be surprised if the Ecotec is the next "honda b-series". That is, the engine that is bulletproof, you can throw anythign you want at it, everyone wants one, everyone wants to swap it into whatever they got, etc.

Then it will be easy to put one in my 1995 Civic. Sweet.

Curious... can someone give me some specs/info/links on the engine? Havn't heard much about it yet.

I'd like to see the all-motor capabilities of this engine.

Currently the fastest all-motor 2.4 "Twin Cam" LD9 that I've heard of runs low 14's. I'd estimate mid 13's with this new 2.4 but with its new technology I imagine it would be easier to achieve even better #'s.
Some of us thought of that a year ago.

I haven't seen any thing at all about the 2.4 eco. I assume that it will be just a bored and stroked 2.2.

I am going to be excited to see it in action. I know many people are complaining, however, I applaud GM for making this move.

I'll wager GM is going to go farther with this program. This is the day when we can have our cake and eat it too.

I thought I read something about sodium filled vavles in one of the motors...who you have thought...

GM is going to cram the Ecotec down everyones throat, it will be to the sport compact scene what the Chevy small block has become to the V-8 guys. Within a few years, Ecotec's will be dominating the sport compact races.

^^ i hope so. Even though I have the LD9, it's nice to see Chevy stepping it up in the sport compact scene. I might have to test drive a 2.4 ECO powered cobalt when they arrive at the local dealership. The only thing I have against the ECO line-up is the powdered metal con-rods. I'd like to see forged units in there (like my LD9).

I think that motor will be the ripper of the bunch, and I already like the sounds of it.
Also for us J-bod owners, we'll become the 2.2 OHV guys in the expanded ECO family, the 2.0 S/C, and the 2.4s will be rippin our a$$ soon.

To the point of GM stepping it up in the compact scene, yeah, these motors will be strong, curious to see how the mags compare the SS to the SRT. Ford prolly won't be too far behind with the Focus once they realize it's here to stay. Hondas' monopoly of the scene is over.

i highly doubt that we will be on the "outside looking in" like the 2.2ohv guys. our 2.2 eco engines will still be the base engine for the cobalts. the 2.4 eco and 2.0 s/c eco will only be options for the SS. so we will still be able to pick on the base cobalts
Yeah the 2.4 Ecotec is gonna be real sweet. I can't wait to see what members unviel when they get their hands on it. 1/4 mile times are gonna be lower and HP is gonna be higher. I love it
