GA to Sunfire/Cav engine Differences
Wednesday, June 08, 2005 1:53 AM
I tried search for this already I was wondering if there was a difference in the engine in a GA as compared to a sunfire/Cav. Such as ECU, manifolds(intake/exhaust) bottom ends? Im looking into modding my 2.2 and now wondering if I could use the cams and etc. Thanx

Well they look the same and everything but my friend drives a 1997 2.4L nissan pick up and I can smoke him to 6 to 7 car links in my 03 sunfire but he can smoke a 05 caviler by 3 to 4 car links.

is he sure the cavalier was racing him? that is a massive difference, 9 car lengths on the low end and 11 on the high.

either the cavalier wasn't racing or the driver didn't shift past 2nd gear.

the cavalier and sunfire are built on two mechanically identical chassis (j-body). the differences are mostly cosmetic, and a little more sound deadening on the sunfire.

well i know one thing is different for sure...

a serpentine belt for the cavy wont fit the GA..
first hand experience with that the other day.. it was off by less than 1/8th inch, so it was close, but it dosn't fit.. the belt is a k5 1015 for a cavy and k5 1028 for the GA for some reason.. i dont know...

by the way, when it comes to racing, its car lengths, not links. and no that belt doesnt fit , but it was soooooo close.
