Sunfire GXP

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you the GXP. Just got back from the New Car Auto Show at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston, MA. This is still a concept car but slated to hit the showroom floor soon. The first of the Pontiac GXP line will be the Bonneville, followed by the Vibe and then the Sunfire, or so I was told by the reps at the show. This beast features a 180 hp supercharged ECOTEC, Front and Rear MONSTER disc brakes, same 17 inch forged aluminum rims as the Solstice, and the color is only for the GXP line, something close to Graystone metallic...Best looking stock sunfire in my opinion. Go see it for yourself, the show is on till next Sunday.

The reps at the show don't know what they're talking about and lied to you because it makes them feel important.

The Sunfire GXP has no current production plans and if they ever did put out a semblance of that car they're showing it will not have all those goodies you just mentioned. I'd be happy if they just built the damned thing as an appearance package and produce the wing they've got on it but alas, I think even that is a pipe dream.

Check out SEMA for a much cooler Sunfire that will never be produced... the Autocross edition.

So true...Ford's got the SVTs, Dodge has the SRTs & SXTs. Why can't GM innovate like everybody else? <br>

ever heard of the hydra-matic trans., that come in the GM CARS... that also with a little modification are ran on the front wheel dragsters.

You like badge names how about SS (Chevy), GXP(Pontiac),GT (Pontiac), RED-LINE (Saturn), z24(CHEVY),z28(CHEVY),z34(CHEVY),z71(CHEVY),Z85(CHEVY), WS6 (RAM AIR)(Pontiac), GS (BUICK)
AND OF COURSE THE GENERIC BADGES; LS, EXT, LT ...
YOU GET THE POINT.

You want to talk about some of GM's innovations... How about the concept of a concept car... Harley Earl.. ever heard of him... he was one of the greatest innovators in the 1900's when it came to automobile design and production... he was the lead coordinator at GM... a couple of innovations: a water sensor on convertibles that put the rag top up automatically when it started raining(on the first le sabre), do you like how low your car is... his design scheme was to make cars low and wide and smooth, like the corvette?... all fiberglass body... the first corvette had shaved door handles (well, it didn't have any), ever heard of tail fins like on the 57' Chevy or Cadillac?...ALL GM, ALL Harley EARL
one of his biggest innovations are how the cars are made/design today... he implemented the order of ... sketching a car, scale, and mold the car out of clay... GM was the first manufacture to make a fool scale clay model of their cars... GM also had the first "car show". They had a line of concept cars and preproduction cars, that they traveled around the country to show off INNOVATIONS.

Sure all of that "innovation" was in the past but allot of them that i didn't mention are still around and or are coming out in the future.

GM is trying a little, not enough, but they are trying.

a couple of new things that i like about GM are:
COBALT SS- has a supercharger, nice appearance package
Aveo- good economical car(Small cars are whats in right now ie; scion, mini,pt cruiser)
Pontiac Solstice- not as powerful as it looks, but is still a nice car(and is also one of the fastest idea to product cars to make it into production)
CORVETTE- is the one of the best muscle cars for the money. great power, looks, innovations: push start, navi, auto adjust seats.
They are getting more into the sport-compact scene slowly but they are.
I like the big bodys they produce ie; escalade, h1,h2,Tahoe,
XM RADIO
ONSTAR
over seas mergers ie: Opel, holden, saab, vauxhall
affils.: Toyota, Chrysler, Suzuki, fiat, Isuzu, Fuji, Subaru
THIS post is just me ranting, I don't mean to offend anyone its just late and i have nothing else to do...

but to say that GM isn't innovating is not to smart.. they are doing the same thing everyone else is doing.

power-plant (engines):
Eco-tech
northstar
vortec
hydra-matic
duramax

Gotta love those 4.3L vortec's

I think solarfire was thinking about nowadays cars. not 1950's

Mitsu has a base lancer and the evo 8
Dodge has a neon and an srt-4
ford has a focus and an svt focus (which is still slow)
subaru has the impreza and the impreza wrx sti

The sunfire Gxp would be simmilar to what these other manufacturors are doing. taking a base car and making it go.

Ramon

You also forgot to metion all of the early 1990's vehicles that were way ahead of there time and were pretty sweet!!!

How about the The Blazer cyclone and the s10 cyclone
I belive these were turbo charged

the turbocharged grand prix

the 2.3l ho motor in the beretta and various other cars

they made tons of innovations but they were before the market was ready for them, so they stopped and were behind, but now it seems they are starting to turn around

GTO, SS , Cobalt SS , Pursuit GT, Ion redline and vue redline, The silverado SS, Corvette with 500 horse out next year, and much more in the next few years!!!

You know, the badges, and titles, and names, and everything else is great and all, but in order for this to happen, this "Sunfire GXP", we are forgetting one very important part. GM is gonna have to get off their ass and produce this phantom ecotec supercharger that we have all been hearing about and they have been promising since spring of last year, but keep pushing back. The GXP package is great and all, and it looks nice. But I prefer to customize in my own way. I dont want a factory kit, or a factory wing, or any other customization that comes straight off the showroom floor. I enjoy seeing the progression of my vehicle, as I am sure most of you do. I do, however, want a GM produced, and waranted, super/turbocharger that I can put on my Ecotec w/out having to worry about voiding my warantee. Just my own personal thoughts.
