Running 5w30 oil in our cars

Hey, i have a question, i recently had my oil changed and am running 5w30 because it's getting colder out. Will this Kill my engine if i run it year round, it gets really warm in the summer like over 100 degrees. I know 5w30 is thinner, would that mean it would need to be changed more often, or can you run it as long as your regular 10 30 and such. Also, being as i have 117,000 miles on the car, is it too late to start using high mileage oil. Are there any benefits to high mileage oil.
