Is there a difference between an aftercooler and an intercooler? Or are they the same thing? I am confused.

An aftercooler and intercooler is essentially the same thing. People typically refer to aftercoolers when they are talking about Air-To-Water type coolers and they typically refer to the Air-To-Air type coolers when talking about Intercoolers. There isn't a right or wrong way of calling them...same thing.

That's basically it.

when i think of after coolers, i think of cryo2's kit like their intercooler sprayer and inline intake cooler. but like njhk said theres air-air and liquid-air intercoolers but either way its still an intercooler

after coolers just use liquid. the difference is a inter-cooler is cooled internally with the air coming in the car. after coolers are the air is still cooled internally but with liquid or something, the after-cooler part is the other rad. that cools what ever it is that aids the inter-cooler. you know the heat exchanger, it is usually called an after cooler. if you want it in easier terms, i will get my turbo and supercharger book and type in the definition if this didn't do the job. hope this helped

Whenever a group of engineers get together and someone brings up the subject of intercooling, invariably someone else says you mean aftercooling. Or if someone discusses aftercooling, another person says intercooling. regardless, they are usually referring to cooling the air or fuel/air mixture somewhere between the compressor discharge and the engine. Many engineers use the all-inclusive term, CHARGE-AIR COOLING.
Gee, I feel smart with a book; maybe I should read more

For what setup? Are you turbocharged? Supercharged?

You want a side mount? Front mount?

Yes, the aftercooler from the Cobalt/Redline is what you can use. It's the same supercharger setup.

My friend has it on his Cavalier, he's going to e-mail me the part numbers later on. When he does, I'll post it up.
