New and need's help!
Wednesday, January 31, 2007 6:07 PM
Hi everyone! My name is Joe and I don't know to much about engines in general. I know some basic info and stuff. I am getting really interested in motors and led me to enrolling in an auto mechanics class. People around school don't respect it much if they haven't heard about it. People think "sunfire's are a girls car" , well it may be but not mine. Im new to the ecotec but not the power even more the torque it has, it's amazing! I dont have much money to spend right now but I would like to know what I should start out with to make my car faster. Some simple stuff ya know? It's an 2.2l ecotec sunfire. All the peeps at school have lil' rice burners and my car will burn em'. Im looking to add maybe just 20 to 50 hp more just to have an edge on some stock and lightly modded v6's. When I race my friends grand prix gt wit the 3800 v6 he barely pulls on me by about half a car when we get to speeds above 60 - 70. So any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Joe and welcome to the Forum.

I had an ECOTEC powered Sunfire as well and went pretty deep with modifications and have been involved with the ECOTECs for years (even if I don't own one anymore).

First thing first, don't buy anything yet. The best thing to do is figure out what you want and prepare for it. I wrote some things to help you out:

Until follow these directions and get a better mindset, I wouldn't waste any money on any part because it could be sending you in the wrong direction that you'll ultimately choose. If you need any further help, feel free to ask.
