Hi,
I recently bought a 2007 Ion 2, with the Ecotec 2.2L
I am new to tuning, as I did not need to tune my previous car, which had a V8 (sold it because of guilt towards the environment! and had a very good deal a Ion 2)
Now, all I want to do is to increase the low rpm torque on my car so I can pass cars more easily on the highway without downshifting, and go from 120km/h to 150km/h quicker (75 to 94mph). I welcome all suggestions! I will also lower the suspension because the Ion is very high.
Note: I am a mechanical engineer, so I know enough about airflow and combustion to stay away from these electric superchargers sold on ebay! and these vortex fuel savers!!
Nic
It really depends on what you're trying to aim for as far as gains in power and how much money you really want involved.
If you're just looking for a little more pep in your step, there are always simple bolt ons you can do like upgrading your exhaust system to changing your intake. They are on the cheaper side and tend to require less need for fuel adjustment.

Well I was hoping to get 50 lbs-ft more of torque. A local performance shop here in Quebec (Canada) told me they could install a Hahn turbo kit for 5500$cdn + $ for installation and dyno runs, so maybe 7000$ + tax, which I find a little expensive.
I wanted to spend about 4000$... but I guess I underestimated the costs of joining the tuning world!
I doubt that adding only a cold air intake and a low restriction exhaust will provide the torque gain I want... but if anyone can give me feedback on this simple type of mod it'd be appreciated.

Well a turbo setup isn't all that simple but it's not all that hard once you understand what is involved. The best thing to have is preporation and understanding of the topic.
Are you planning on getting a kit or going to build it yourself? I'm assuming kit since you mentioned Hahn....but...the only thing is that Hahn hasn't made a kit for the 2.2 Cobalts as of yet. Garrett just released theirs and so did Alpine Developments. You can look into them.

Sorry, not 2.2 Cobalt, I meant 2.2 Ion. Either or ....same engine lol

Thanks for the links, the Alpine Developments Turbo seems promising...
