Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Help!
Tuesday, April 26, 2005 5:18 PM
Hey,
Tried searching the post, but no luck unless I've done it wrong.
Just bought the Melpassi Adj. FPR and found out that setting it to approx. 55 PSI with my current mods should be just about right. Would give me more mid-range power.
Does anyone know where I could find instructions on the install? Or how much would it cost a mechanic to put one in, how long does it take? Can't dyno it right now, so will have to play with the adjustment. What gains can I expect, anyone know?
Appreciate it guys, thanks.

IMHO, dealing with a presurized fuel system is not something you want to mess with unless you know what you're doing. So, if you don't know how to install it, don't. An adjustable FPR is an easy way to ruin your engine if installed or tuned improperly. There are a lot of easier and safer ways to gain more power or at least have a mechanic do it for you.

On a side thought...

I think GM uses a drop-in Bosch style FPR on some of their cars. You'd have to check if this is the case for the Eco, but if so maybe something like this would be a better option:

EuroSpec Adjustable FPR

I could be completely wrong, but it would make the install easier and neater if it were the case. If I am wrong, see if there is a FPR that is a drop in replacement for the Eco.

And don't forget a fuel pressure gauge. Maybe you can read fuel rail pressure on the Eco with a scan tool making your life even easier, but I'm not to sure about that either.

Anyone know more specific info?

I agree with Matt.

If I were you, I'd get an SAFC-2...more adjustable. You can put how much fuel you need in whatever RPM range you want. Take it to a dyno-shop first to see if you are lean or rich and then you can go from there or have them just tune it for you.
