Remove the catalytic conv of a 2003 sunfire

i have a 2003 sunfire , 2.2l ecotec , i already have taken out the mufflers and put straight pipes , i was thinking of taking off the catalytic converter

i was wondering if anyone has done this , is it going to be louder that it already is , how much power am i going to gain if any , and does it affect gas mileage ,

thanks in advance

Yes...it will be much louder without a catalytic converter.

It's not going to really help you power wise. As far as restriction, your catalytic converter isn't that restrictive...

What size piping did you put in?

the piping is about 2 1/2'

since i did i felt a bit better acceleration

You'll feel a better acceleration but you probably lost power in the lower part of your RPM band because of the lack of exhaust velocity build up.

You would probably have a much broader powerband if you went with a 2 1/4" exhaust diameter, get a 2 1/4" diameter catalytic converter and a nicely designed header.

Just leave the catalytic converter on. It would be more beneficial to leave it on in many ways.
