Strength of L61 Manual transmission
Sunday, October 30, 2011 2:59 PM
I have a 2008 Cobalt with an L61 and 5-spd. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how strong the transmission really is. I've found the torque rating on wikipedia, but I don't really trust that number. I'm looking for someone who's upgraded their car so I know how far I can go without having to do a trans swap. And if a swap is needed, any suggestions? The SS's trans is supposed to be rated to ~260 ft lbs, but I'm looking to eventually upgrade my Cobalt to 300-400 HP.

the 2.0 tranny in the ss/sc will not work with the 2.2 flywheel and everything is different between the 2 would be cheaper to buy a crapload of spare trannies. i have a ss/sc tranny and researched to fit it to a buddies car but i have not found anyway to do it.
