I didn't want to say...

But that's the biggest value my PC has ever given me.

[quote=Keeper of the Light™]okay...I'll end this debate on PC vs. console for once and for all:

And ALL of you can back me on this, unless you're a total liar:

Can a console store gigabytes of porn on it for later use?

NO

Game, set, and match...

Try again, PS3 web browser can save pictures to it's hard drive, might be able to do videos as
well, I'm not sure, haven't tried. I'm pretty sure the xbox 360 does as well.

And to further stir the pot.... anybody ever hear of a console getting affected by a virus? Spyware?

Installing a game on a console is a breeze, the same is not always true on a PC. I can't count
the hours spent on Christmas mornings trying to get the latest "Reader Rabbit" to work.
What's that, the video card needs to be upgraded to run tis game? F' that, the PS3 is
way cheaper than an upgrade to an already usable PC that's not up to snuff on this weeks
gaming requirements.

My rebuttal:
1. You can hook up 14 people to play in one room, each with a 1024x768 resolution monitor or better (mine's 1600x1200), as opposed to a regular TV that 80% of people have that does UP TO 480, which is then split 4 ways for up to a whopping 120 lines per player!!
2. No such thing as "next gen", you can always stay up to date. And if you don't, your visuals just can't be the best the game has to offer, but you can still play. The PS2 can't play any PS3 game.
3. And for 14 players, you'll need 4 36" Tv's in one room to make it playable. Hope your friends have muscles! Especially getting them down that basement you keep talking about.
4. Four years from now you'll pop in that new game and think, "Damn, 50 bucks and the game looks like it was made four years ago!"
5. I can watch TV WHILE playing my computer games, because my computer has it's own screen. I don't have to make a choice.

Unless your PS3 is your new porn machine, which I doubt it is, this argument is moot. Clicking on pictures is a two handed affair on the PS3 isn't it? Wouldn't you need to...ahem..keep a hand free for ...whatever?

You got us there! But at least the PC is a serviceable piece of equipment. When your PS3 has a failure, nothing can be done but to ship it back and wait. A $200 console is almost disposable if it lasts just a few years, but a $600 PS3 is hardly disposable. Yet your PC loves a phillips.

But I'll ammend my previous porn argument:

For me personally the PS3 wins over the 360 because:
* wireless internet right out of the box. and FREE
.. Downloaded some demos
...Downloaded some HD movie trailers which was pretty cool.
* Im really into photography, and i stuck in a SD or CompactFlash card and BAM theres pictures..

I've had my Xbox for a year and Ive never been online with it. And to put any pictures or movies thru the Xbox and TV I had to drag a cord across the room from my PC. another little thing is I dont like the controller much, but thats only my preference.

I like PC games and all but:
* Never found a PC controller i liked much
* Controller takes up a USB port i use for other stuff
* Can't play PC with a friend...
* Can't take my PC to my buddies to play with them

If any console is going to "win" it's going to be the Wii IMO, because of affordability main reason. I cancelled my cable a while back and I've already saved enough to buy a Wii probably (like 2 or 3 months of DigitalTV and Internet).

But I doubt any console will "lose" because they all are great.

I'll chime in for PC.

The X-box and Xbox 360 are PCs just a different boot ROM and OS. The viruses are coming.

Not sure about the other two, but, they can connect to the web, so it's only a matter of time.

Like the X-box controller? They're USB, rewire the connector, download a driver and off you go (been there, done that). Controllers are simply peripherals, if you want to use them on a PC you can. Plus the thousands of other options you have, everything from dime store crap to total rooms designed around one game (think Flight sim, go looking, it's insane) and everything in between.

Storage and lots of it.. Everything expandable to incredible amounts on modern PCs.

^^

Actually the Xbox360 controllers just plain work in a PC, no rewiring needed.

I've been partial to the Logitech controllers. They're PS3-ish and most games have presets for them. They're great for running my emulators.

My vote is for the PS3. 360's have too good a chance of breaking, I know lots of people who have had to send them in. And also the PS3 has wireless connectivity right out of the box which costs $100 for the 360. You can play online for free with PS3 where it costs $50 a year on 360. And also you get Blu-ray technology and HD-DVD players for 360 are $200. So in all, for all the goodies, the PS3 is actually cheaper and I trust Playstation quality over Xbox quality any day. Oh yeah and I forgot you get a HDD 3x bigger on the PS3 also.

My rebuttal to not my fight by why not.
The ps2 can not play ps3 games is moot, because Vista can't play some XP games. Yes its backwards, but same concept.
For 14 players you just connect online with all 14-40 people or what ever the game supports. Your using the internet to network the games, so is the PS3 and 360 none are better than the others.
Watching TV while playing games ... imo your not playing the games, while watching TV.
Updating my PC is not a thing I want to do all the time. I us too, just not anymore.
You can hook up a USB keyboard and mouse to your PS3, and view the internet through the PS3 web browser or the Linux web browser.

The PS3 can through Fat32 external hard drives. I do not think you have a TERABYTE in your computer.

You can use PS3 or 360 controllers on your PC with adapters or drivers.
I am not sure about 360, but you can upgrade your PS3 hard drive with any SATA, 2.5", 8mb, hard drive. There is no limit on size. Any 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm drive will work fine. Currently 160GB is the biggest notebook hardrive on the market... At least I think.

Anyhow, I personally don't mind upgrading the PC...so no bother for me. Right now, though, IMHO, unless Sony comes out with a game that blows anything the 360 has out of the water graphics or gameplay-wise, no reason to get one--at least yet.

IMHO the Wii is a different monster alltogether.

Have you seen the new "Home" feature that will be out for the PS3 soon? Yes the video is way to long. It has some very interesting things with it, and some not so interesting things.

I totally discounted the Wii because I really don't believe that it's in the same class as the two. Wii's are fun and all and a great deal for only $250 but the graphics blow. All that the Wii does is make sports games a little more fun with how you play, but other than that it sucks because honestly what good game are there anyways? Zelda and Mario aren't even fun so I absolutely hate Nintendo.

You don't need breathtaking graphics to have a good game. if that was the case then you wouldn't have oldschool Zelda, Mario, and Metroid games kicking the snot of out the Halos, Half-lifes, and GTA's on IGN's top 100 games of all time.

Zelda, Mario, and Metroid are so high, because they are good games, but they are also legendary games. Do you know anyone that hasn't played them? They have a bigger fan base, and been around a lot longer. They are the grand dads of modern gaming.

p.s. Mario is still my all time favorites game. Simple, fun, and seems to really never get old. In 10-20 years we will see if Mario is still up in the top spots.

Wii IMO just isn't a next GEN system. Its just different. It has the same technology as a game cube.

Well, it's been a month and a half since the original post, and I still cannot find a Wii here in Winnipeg. Every place I've been in the last week has been sold out.

Granted, I don't want one, so I'm not looking all that hard, but they're still not regularly in stock yet.

PS3? Well, assuming I wanted one, I could walk into any store and pick it up. Easily.

Sales wise, the Wii is over five million units already. That's half of the XBox 360, and nearly 3.5 million more than the PS3.

I know there's a long way to go, but as it stands, the Wii is kicking the @!#$ out of everything else.

Keep in mind, SMB is over 20 years old. So is Zelda. Donkey Kong is even older. 20 years later, Metroid fans arre still pondering over why "Justin Bailey" is.

In about 20 years i STILL Expect them to be there. Why do you think that after about 70 years people STILL call the Three Stooges one of the best slapstick troupes of all time?

Those games had something going for them--good gameplay, good story, and pure innovation. Everything nowadays seems like a rehash. There's little innovation happening. It's all about graphics, which is that the PS3 is doing now...

And look how well it's doing.

the Wii--while marginally better than the GC, brings that--innovation. the PS3 is merely putting a new wrapper on the same present. No innovation, only eye candy. At least for now . It's basically saying, " Yeah, look what the 360 does, but look how much prettier we can do it for the low-low price of $600." The Wii is saying, "Hey, remember Zelda? Remember how as a kid you would take a garbage can lid and a baseball bat and pretend to be link (and I know I'm not the only one), and possibly get in trouble for beating the snot out of a garbage back filled with water thinking it was an oktorock? Well, now out can! We may not have the flashy graphics, but now you could BE Link. And if links' not your thing? no bother, we got more games coming out that put YOU in the game.

It's redefining the way games are being played. THAT is what's going to be memorable. Not another remake of Grand Turismo, but this time you can see the bird @!#$ smears when your RSX-S hits a pigeon.

My $.02.
